Soy Allergies

Soy allergies are as common as milk allergies, and may even coincide with a milk allergy.  Other foods that are highly allergenic include wheat, peanuts, shellfish, beef, citrus, poultry, strawberries and tomatoes.  Soy can be made mostly hypoallergenic by the same processing techniques which remove trypsin inhibitors, but a food allergy must be respected as symptoms such as eczema, hives, rash and asthma may range from mild to life-threatening.  A retrospective study two to three decades into life with adults who were fed infant formula reported that adult women used a significantly greater number of allergy or asthma drugs, but the relationship is not understood.
